About Jan Gill

Observations of wildlife, place and inner landscape.

My work begins with attention.

Sometimes that attention is directed outward — towards the quiet lives that share our fields, hedgerows and riverbanks. A robin waiting patiently beside a compost heap, a kingfisher flashing across still water, a red squirrel pausing mid-movement. These small encounters form the starting point for my wildlife portraits, later reinterpreted in a watercolour style to preserve both presence and personality.

At other times, my focus turns to place. Living close to the Welsh border, I am surrounded by landscapes and architecture that carry their own quiet stories. My Shrewsbury pieces explore familiar landmarks — warm stone, open skies and reflections along the River Severn — capturing something of the atmosphere that makes a place feel like home.

Alongside these representational works sit a growing body of abstract watercolour paintings. These begin without subject or expectation. Colour is allowed to move freely across damp paper, forming shapes and textures that speak more to feeling than form. They explore stillness, resilience and the quiet energy that exists beneath everyday life.

Across all three strands, the common thread is observation and patience. My work is less about spectacle and more about noticing — those small moments of connection that often pass quietly by.

All prints are produced as high-quality fine art prints, designed to bring calm, character and a sense of connection to your space. Whether you are drawn to wildlife, local landmarks or more expressive abstract pieces, I hope you find something here that feels quietly at home with you.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my work.
